Be Optimistic for your career in 2021
They say a New Year brings with it change and renewed optimism but while many of us were quick to say good riddance to 2020 it probably doesn't feel like 2021 is much different so far.
I've seen plenty of people posting on social media about already failing with new year's resolutions, most of them involving dry January, but that doesn't mean your career should be stuck in neutral. We've got the whole year ahead of us, plenty of time to make change and plenty of reason to remain optimistic.
Nothing makes the day longer than going through the motions and that's why January typically sees a spike in people looking at future job prospects. Yes there are some sectors that have obviously been hit harder than others but it was only yesterday I was speaking with a business who are experiencing record numbers and they are in retail. So I go back to my earlier statement.....there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic.
The good news is that despite the continued pandemic, there are jobs out there. The bad news is that you’ve got some competition: January marks the busiest job search month of the entire year. The top job search days are consistently in January (the other top days are in February), making it apparent that a lot of people equate a new year with a new career. January and February are two of the best months to look for full-time jobs since these are the months most companies receive updated budgets and sales forecasts. Employers have a better idea of what they need and will also have a clearer mindset at this time of year as they also benefited from some much needed rest over the Christmas period. And with that, all of the key decision makers will be back in the 'office' and will be looking forward to making the most of those revised budgets. You should expect a much quicker decision making process at this time of year so it's important to be prepared.
My message is don't let other people's negative opinions dictate what you can or can't achieve in 2021. We are in week 2 of 52. We are busy. We are here. That gives me plenty to be optimistic about and it should you too.
