There are plenty of career options to be found within the field of accountancy and finance – you could work towards becoming a Chartered Accountant, Commercial Accountant or even pursue a career within Corporate Finance.

There are so many possibilities once you graduate and finding your first role can be a daunting prospect. However, it can also be exciting to explore your options and search for an opportunity that interests you - which is where we can help!

At first glance, studying a degree in accounting and finance might seem limiting or a funnelled career option, but the reality is that having the ability to interrogate, manipulate and interpret numbers and financial data is a highly sought after skill in many different roles, across all kinds of industries. Your degree in accounting and finance, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, will provide you with a huge amount of skills and qualities that employers seek from candidates.

To become a fully qualified accountant in the UK, you have to pass (or be exempt from) a series of professional exams and undergo a period of relevant practical training. For this reason, graduates who begin their careers as accountants will usually start studying again within the first year of employment. In some cases, employers may offer to cover this cost, in any case, they almost all proactively seek candidates who want to continue with this study or have already enrolled. Once you have completed your accountancy qualification, which usually takes three years to complete, the opportunities are even greater.

Whichever specialisation in accountancy that a graduate has chosen to focus on, whether it be financial accounting, corporate finance, tax audit, assurance or another, this field can provide a rewarding and high-achieving career. At Savant, we have placed people as junior analysts or assistant accountants at the start of their careers who have then come back years later as Finance Directors or CFOs, looking to us to aid them in building out their own teams.

With almost every business requiring an accountant, you could work in any sector, anywhere in the world. An accounting graduate career is modern and fast-moving, with continued career development and career succession practically guaranteed wherever you work. With our team having many years of experience, having worked across Australia, America and the UK, Savant Recruitment would be excited to discuss your career opportunities and what steps could lead you to your ultimate professional goals.
