How Covid -19 accelerated these 5 technologies

The COVID-19 pandemic appears to have accelerated new and emerging technologies and products.

According to a recent Frost & Sullivan report, we have seen the highest rise in demand for new technology within healthtech, which is anticipated to further rise by 64.3% towards the end of this year because of the need of social distancing.

Most companies have now shifted their attention to where it is less about making business decisions to solely out-last the virus but instead to out-innovate it.

With that said, Covid-19 has introduced many unexpected challenges, and with this we have seen an incredible acceleration of technology.

As CIOs reprioritize business strategies from cost cutting to taking a step back and looking at the macro and refocusing on transformation and innovation.

This is understandable, with customers, employees and the ecosystem all operating within new and uncertain circumstances.

During this period, we have seen everything from people’s values changing and thus this has exposed how former digital age technology models are increasingly out of sync with them.

With this imbalance still growing, COVID-19 hasn’t overshadowed the issue—it has exacerbated it.

Yet, we see these powerful trends as major opportunities to rebuild trust and realign people’s values with enterprise value.

Here is our snapshot of how COVID is accelerating the following 5 technologies:

1- Customers want more from their digital experience. Now more than ever with people staying at home, it has sparked an urgency to have an enhanced digital experience with more engagement and interaction. We have therefore seen a surge within the VR industry to accommodate this demand with increased popularity in photorealistic VR environments i.e. zoom backgrounds, which we have seen being used for remote events, webinars and meetings. These new innovations seemed to have sparked a new opportunity that companies have taken advantage of to build deeper customer relationships.

2- Artificial intelligence is making history during this pandemic, and we all are getting to see it in action as it is happening right now. It has been a new way to speak on how human workers can collaborate with AI systems to help each other develop and drive forward the drug discovery process. This is inevitably a groundbreaking time for customers, employees, and regulators to all see AI at it’s best.

3- We are living in a new era of Robots in the wild. More than any other trends we have seen, robots seem to be making their way out of controlled environments like warehouses and factories and out into the open world. New public needs from the pandemic like sanitizing streets and contact-less delivery are all a new reality in some countries.

4- The progression of IOT has also faced a tech-clash during this pandemic, and we have seen this with the development in 5G amongst the telecommunications players. At the pandemic highest peak in the early stages of the national lockdown, customers around the country were frustrated by the constant connectivity issues, and while the obvious reason would have been because of the increased numbers of people on the web, 5G was under the spotlight. This meant that one of the big players were given a temporary reprieve, and we saw this with the CEO of BT giving a statement to clear up these rumours. Yet we predict that this beta burden will return, and this will likely leave customers moving on and trusting other service providers (if they haven’t already!).

5- Finally, if companies were not fans of the cloud, they definitely are now. This trend demonstrates how mature this digital technology has become the centerpiece of all organisations today to store, share and synchronize data in real time from anywhere in the world. We saw a number of companies who did not have an existing cloud infrastructure in place before the lockdown period and have had to migrate their data systems so that employees could continue to work remotely to adhere to the government social distancing laws.

For the many businesses reprioritizing their technology and innovation strategies, adjusting to tighter budgets and possible resurgences of the virus with discussions of a possible second national lockdown, I cannot emphasize enough that these technologies and trends are more urgent than ever!

So how will you take advantage of these challenges to create opportunity?

We are living in a moment of incredible technology innovation. This virus is among the biggest challenges we have faced in decades, and the companies, governments, universities, and individuals that step up, inventing new solutions and fulfilling new needs, are positioning themselves to be post-COVID leaders.

What technologies or products is your company seeing rapid emergence of during this period?
