Salesforce DevOps Expectations in 2022 - Part 2.0

Posted by Krishangi Dahiya on 11/08/2022

Back

With the addition of several new clouds to the salesforce ecosystem, it has become important to discuss Salesforce Devops functionalities in the context of these new additions.

SFDX, SF and more

Salesforce always strives to unify different  deployments across multiple clouds and that is clearly seen in their splitting of the SFDX binary into SF and SFDX. As seen on Salesforce Developers’ guide, SFDx is meant to give users the ability to develop and test apps easily on Salesforce platforms. However, SFDX does not provide you with all the commands you need to make it work across all salesforce clouds. But with SF, it is possible to bring a cross-cloud set of commands that can streamline how you build and deploy across salesforce.

As SFDX continues to find challenges with adoption, we can expect to see a greater push from Salesforce to create more and more useful commands along with the much needed maturity of dependency analysis that can help organisations quickly break down their single metadata stack into apps.

Salesforce DevOps Centre

The Salesforce DevOps centre is becoming increasingly popular and gaining a lot of attention around expectations of its capabilities. Currently, the focus is on change tracking, version control integration along with some ALM capabilities, although its roadmap will become clearer in 2022 in terms of whether it will take the route of deployments and automation server capabilities. It will be quite interesting to see which DevOps tools will complement or compete with the Salesforce DevOps centre in 2022.

Salesforce Test Automation

The Salesforce DevOps plan has been led by the CI/CD tooling which includes tools like Copado, Flosum, AutoRABIT and Gearset in the past few years. Considering the growth of Salesforce, consumers are very keen to embrace these new tools in order to set up a proper DevOps practice.

While most of the CI goals are related to automated packaging and data deployments, all set up for customers who have taken the journey, the next step in the DevOps journey should be test automation.

DevOps tools which work in collaboration with test automation tools such as AccelQ, Provar etc, can support the CD initiative for salesforce customers.

DevOps ROI

Moving forward, with a significant increase in investments in tooling, it will be expected that ROI analysis on key-value streams across multiple verticals be done by customers who can then plan further DevOps road maps accordingly.
