For over a decade, Salesforce has shown its commitment to climate action. In 2021, it achieved net zero residual emissions as a company and some time ago, launched its very own net zero marketplace to further promote innovation backed climate solutions.
Salesforce has also announced three new initiatives at the COP27 in Egypt further strengthening its commitment to climate action.
1. The Blue Carbon Framework
Blue Carbon is seeing a rapid demand growth. As firms strive to reach net zero emissions, the global voluntary carbon market is set to reach $50 billion USD by 2030. Along with other global coalition of ocean leaders, Salesforce will release its “High Quality Blue Carbon Principles and Guidance”. Blue carbon is the carbon captured and stored by marine and coastal ecosystems. Salesforce’s guidelines call for the maximisation of blue carbon credits for the climate, the people and biodiversity.
The director of Salesforce’s Ocean sustainability noted: “This [the framework] is only the beginning of a shared journey to ensure accountability, sustainability, and transparency in the rapidly evolving blue carbon marketplace.”
2. Nature Accelerator Programme
Another great initiative being launched by Salesforce is the Nature Accelerator which will give non profit organisations capital to pursue innovative ideas and scale up their climate action.
Through this initiative non profits will have access to philanthropic investments, product donations and pro bono support.
In Salesforce’s Senior VP of Philanthropy words - “Salesforce’s Nature Accelerator provides nonprofits with funding, technology, and support to make big bets and explore the innovative new solutions our planet needs.”
3. Eco-restoration Project in Zambia
Salesforce has also announced its ecosystem restoration project in Zambia at COP27. This initiative comes in support of Global Evergreening Alliance to restore and grow 30 million trees across the African nation. This initiative is a part of Salesforce’s commitment to restore, grow and conserve 100 million trees by 2030. Salesforce has also supported similar nature based projects in Australia, Latin America and Europe.
