UX/UI Designers are the Final bridge between Web 3.0 and Users

The internet and its capacity as we know it today has been an evolution from a read-only-web known as Web 1.0 which lasted from the beginning of 1989 to early 2000s, with the main goal to further the reach of information without the capability of interaction between users and what was online. This then transitioned towards Web 2.0 the read-write web which officially began around 2004 and is what we use today. This version emphasises the interaction of users with each other online and interaction between users and what was online. However the next evolution of the internet has, Web 3.0 has already begun, a read-write-own version of the internet with an importance of decentralisation, privacy, machine learning and safety to the current web system.

With the rise of Web 3.0, given the current capacity of our web system users are now focussing on improving on their experience and interaction with any operating systems. Introducing a whole new ecosystem of how users interact with technology and the web will require efficient UX/UI integration to ease users transition from Web 2.0 to Web 3.0. Let’s take Decentralised Finance (DeFi) as an example, there is a high barrier to entry for consumers. An extensive research based design and interface will be required to help users understand and integrate into a whole new finance system and that could only be achieved through an extensive UX/UI design and research.

All of the current Web 3.0 infrastructure has been built with a “developers mindset”, of course it is completely acceptable as web 3.0 focuses on restructuring the foundation of institutions itself in many areas such as Finance, Arts, Human Interaction and many others. Developers have now laid the foundation to achieve the goals of Web 3.0 and now designers play an essential role in ensuring the integration of Web 3.0 and its goals to users. In order for designers to achieve this, the goals of Web 3.0 must be considered in producing any design elements:

1. Trust

Trust is a core principle of Web 3.0, one of the goals of Web 3.0 is for users to have complete control over their privacy, finances and interaction with other users on the web space. Hence designs of Web 3.0 products must portray this very clearly and efficiently to users to help them understand the benefits and goals of Web 3.0 seamlessly.

2. Education

Web 3.0 is packed and dense with new areas and avenues for users, acronyms such as DeFi, GameFi, DAO, mint and many others could be daunting for many new users to absorb. Hence a design with user education in mind is extremely important to ensure that users are not overwhelmed and will help the integration of Web 3.0 to existing users.

3. Generational Knowledge Gap

Web 3.0 will be adopted by moth millennials and gen Z, two generations which live and breathe technology and Web 2.0. A group of users who not only expect an intuitive user interface and a seamless mobile navigation, they demand it. They place value in a company’s ability to translate its product or service into a pleasant and smooth digital experience.

As a whole, UX/UI designers now play an essential role in the development of Web 3.0 and it is a big responsibility to bear. The success and efficiency of Web 3.0 which has been envisioned by countless developers in the area now relies upon the experience and interaction users have with the products and services from this day onwards.
