What does the future hold for the UK Cyber Security landscape?

The UK Government has continued to invest in Cyber Security during this pandemic, announcing a £100 million investment for the sector.

We have seen the spike within Cyber Security accelerating during lockdown, this of course makes sense due to there being an increased influx in data being transferred digitally.

With that being said, the global cybersecurity market is booming.

Cybersecurity-related spending is on track to surpass $133 billion in 2022, and the market has grown more than 30x in the past 13 years.

So, how does the UK Cyber Security landscape currently look?

The UK Cybersecurity Landscape:

  • 800+ Cyber businesses
  • 1 Tech Unicorn (DarkTrace)
  • £9bn Invested in Cyber worldwide in 2018
  • 5th Sector to get the most investment, just after AI.

On top of that, the UK is leading the way to becoming a global leader within Cyber Security, with the following Top 20 companies carving this into fruition, all of which include:

  • My1Login
  • LuJam
  • Skurio
  • Salt DNA
  • White Bullet Solutions
  • Keepnet Labs
  • CryptaLabs
  • Novastone
  • Fortium Tech
  • Awen Collective
  • SE Labs
  • iProov
  • Corax
  • XQ Cyber
  • Red Sift
  • Cybsafe
  • ISMS.online
  • Assuria
  • DarkTrace
  • Amplipha

These companies listed embody the technological developments within the industry, including progress within Blockchain and AI (Artificial Intelligence).

We have seen these advancements with Blockchain as part of cybersecurity strategy because of its ability to allow companies to be able to decentralise their data, instead of what most companies still today do which is to keep their data centralised and in one location making them more susceptible to an attack.

Artificial Intelligence also has been a strategy adopted within the industry because of the massive leaps with machine learning, whereby AI now can be used to automatically detect unusual patterns amongst encrypted IOT environments.

Does this mean for us IT professionals that we can look forward to a rise in demand amongst cyber security roles?

Will there be new exciting investment opportunities for investors?
